dreykat — 24-06-2007 GTM 1 @ 21:34

fotoThe intonation is a problem that affects to those no native speakers of English, since when they adopt it as a second language,  with Spanish's intonation. Mostly this happens with the Latin Americans that their dialect consists of a very marked accent, and it is difficult to adopt the totally English. For example countries like Mexico, Argentina and Chile their intonation way is different and they leave it equally when they speak English.

For a North American it is unpleasant to listen this kind of people, when express their ideas, because they don't end up understanding with clarity and until it can cause conflicts.

Adopting English as a second Language

dreykat — 24-06-2007 GTM 1 @ 21:30

Nowadays, is common to see people trying to learn a language and in some cases they find it difficult. In most cases, English is the language that almost everybody has or wants to know. As a Halliday studied the acquisition of the language for children and he said that they learn it because of their social needs, emotions and to express ideas. Also, they call them:

  • Instrumental: to express needs.
  • regularity: to tell others what to do.
  • Interactional:to make contact with others.
  • Personal:to express feelings, opinions and individual identity.

What do you think is the relation between the blog theme and the Halliday theory?
